Deception
III is a unique trap-setting game (following the same path as the two
games before it). What can be better than
setting an array of traps in a room, luring prey to them, and watching
as they fall victim to your contraptions? ;-)
What did I like about this game?
- The ability to use traps in
conjunction with certain things in a room (e.g. setting a trap
underneath a falling chandelier)
- Trap License Mode - a training mode
for beginners
- Free Training Mode - allows for the
testing of traps on a 'dummy'
- Your responses to story selections
shape how the story unfolds
- Being able to create different
types of traps
What did I NOT like about this game?
- Bland backgrounds
- The linear game-play from mission
to mission during story mode
- Story mode scenes between missions
Dark Delusion's story mode is made up
of five scenes (or missions). At the end, you are evaluated on how
well you did and are able to create different trap types. In between each mission are scenes that play out,
continuing the story. There is no spoken dialog, so you are forced
to read rather quick moving text at the bottom of the screen. The
graphics aren't too impressive during these scenes either.
What
about the lead female character?
Reina is her name and trap setting is
her game. The story leaves a bit to be desired, but doesn't really
hinder the
game-play in any way.
Keep in mind that this game is all
about traps. Planning, preparing and setting up traps is the whole
idea. This can be quite entertaining, especially if you've been
having a bad day. Players can even view 'intruder' data (info
about the enemy character).
The status screen includes the number
of victims, maximum number of trap combinations and a trap guide.
The provided map also proves useful, showing where devices are planted
in the room for use.
It should be noted that there are
scenes of animated blood and violence. However, if luring people
into traps sounds like fun, check out Deception III. It will allow
for creativity and brain power. Check out Kagero: Deception II as
well.
