Ever
Grace is a third person RPG that allows you to play both a male and
female main character.
"The story of Ever Grace unfolds
from two different perspectives: that of Darius, and that of Sharline.
These two perspectives take place in the Rieubane Empire, but they are
independent of each other and will not intersect during play."
What did I like about this
game?
- The fact that there are two
paralleling stories for the two main characters (Sharline and
Darius).
- The ability to switch between
characters at a save point.
- Being able to change the colors of
equipment at the shop.
- The ability to buy new equipment at
each successive level.
- The combat system.
Sharline and Darius are able to be
equipped with items having special powers (called Palmira
armaments). A variety of these armaments have powers called
Palmira actions. Such actions may be magical and physical
attacks.
Changing equipment and experimenting
with colors is quite amusing. For example, one helmet is a pumpkin
that is placed over the face like a jack-o-lantern. Want a purple
pumpkin on your head? No problem with this game. Some of the
puzzles rely on the ability to change armor colorings.
What did I NOT like about
this game?
- The voice acting.
- The storyline is weak, although it
makes more sense after reading the enclosed game manual.
- The same shop-keeper is at every
save point.
- The bland use of colors for the
backgrounds.
The combat system takes place in
real-time and there is no cut screen. Enemies are on screen and
can be fought or avoided as needed. At one point in the game, you
are able to return to the same monster over and over again and receive a
red fruit each time. This allows the player to level up skills
(such as strength) to their highest possible levels (200 points for
each). This leaves battles to become easy and
tedious.
By the end of the game, you'll find
Sharline and Darius each carrying 9999 gold (the maximum) with nothing
left to buy. It should also be noted that you have to go through
both main character's stories before going on to the end of the game.
Despite some drawbacks however, Ever
Grace can become quite addicting. Overall, not a bad game.
Rent first before you buy.
